Winter Market Manager

 

We are are looking for a Winter Market Manager.  This is a seasonal, part time position with primary responsibility for the weekly operation of the Winter Market.  This will include an on-site presence at the market during all market hours, as well as off-site work during non-market hours.  The manager will report to the Executive Director and Director of Agriculture & Education, who will set all market policy.  In addition, the manager will represent the market to the market’s vendors, the consumers and to the community.

 

Duties—in season

  • Enroll farmers/vendors/businesses in the market—both through seasonal vendor agreements and as short term vendors

  • Make sure all vendor forms are completed and retained properly

  • Collect all fees owed, make accurate accounting and deposit with the Executive Director

  • Arrive prior to market vendors arriving and remain throughout the market day to:

    • Properly place vendors in spaces, including assigning market spaces to daily vendors

    • Place market signs, parking signs

    • Set up market information booth and event/music equipment

    • Ensure all rules and regulations are adhered to

    • Answer questions for vendors and consumers

    • Resolve disputes that arise

    • Maintain market grounds in a safe manner

    • Manage and set up volunteers

    • Develop positive relationships with vendors and customers

    • Greet customers and act as ambassador of Grow It Green mission

    • Have any education or promotional materials to distribute

    • Sell market bags, shirts, as are determined through season

    • Operate market’s SNAP and Double Food Bucks programs

  • Act as liaison to the Executive Director, maintaining and updating accurate accounting and performance reports

  • Communicate market policies, activities and safety procedures to vendors, and local town depts. As needed keeping them informed throughout the season including in relation to COVID-19

  • Maintain Winter Market email- monitoring and responding in timely manner

  • Attend weekly Grow It Green staff meetings to update on performance, remain up to date on current activities, enlist help as needed and plan special activities as possible this season

  • Conduct customer counts to gauge the level of participation in market usage

  • Assure the market site is clean once the market is closed and the vendors have left for the day

  • Maintain database of farmers, vendors, their contact information, and any licenses or permits each vendor possesses based on the products they are selling

  • Vendor recruitment

  • Community relationship development as appropriate

  • Advertising/promotional program development, including special events planning with GIGM staff, and printing/ordering/ placement of market materials

  • Maintain website, calendar postings in local media of vendors, offerings and events

  • Plan and post on social media for promotion leading up and during market

Qualifications

  • Ability to think creatively

  • Marketing skills including social media knowledge of various platforms to promote the market

  • Leadership skills—ability to communicate clear directions to many different types of groups, dispute resolution skills and work well with others

  • Organizational skills and ability to be flexible

  • Knowledge of google docs and Microsoft suites is helpful.

  • Self-motivated and extremely dependable with own transportation

  • Passionate about the community and value of local, fresh food access and direct marketing

Compensation

This position is paid $15/hour for 15 hours/ weekly including one weekend day in weekly market season (Nov-Mar) , starting asap.  The Manager position does not include benefits and needs to be able to work remotely as needed due to COVID-19.

Fall Marketing Intern

Grow It Green Morristown seeks a detail-oriented and creative college student to assist in organizational outreach, program promotion, and fundraising events.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

The Marketing Intern will be responsible for assisting the Development Manager with weekly promotions and graphic design. The Marketing Intern will also be responsible for weekly newsletters, social media postings, event flyers, designing promotional materials, and press release distribution. He/She may also be asked to help coordinate fundraising events. He/She should have an interest in local food systems and gardening and be personable and self-motivated.

 

Specific duties:

  1. Create weekly e-blasts with updates for upcoming events

  2. Develop promotional materials for events and programs

  3. Update the organizational website & create content for social media

  4. Help with organizational fundraising events and classes

  5. Submit calendar listings to local online news outlets

  6. Opportunities to assist with grant writing

 

Qualifications:

  1. Excellent writing skills

  2. Must be personable and enjoy working with diverse community members

  3. Competency in MailChimp or similar email program is a plus

  4. Graphic design and understanding of social media is necessary

  5. Must be dependable, organized, flexible and have a sense of humor

  6. Attention to detail is a must

  7. A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently, with minimal oversight

  8. Ability to speak fluent Spanish is a plus

  9. Needs to be dependable and have own transportation and computer

 

Job Schedule and Requirements:

This is an unpaid part-time position, from September through December for the first semester. Students must be enrolled in a higher education institution and receive college credit for the internship. This role must have its own transportation. This is an unpaid internship where you will gain experience in the nonprofit local food sector.
