Farming is a very rewarding career and may be a job that you didn’t think was in your skill set. But farming can be for everyone! It requires is a drive to learn new skills, a passion for the environment and an appreciation for a hard day’s work. If you even have one of these traits a career in farming could be for you. We have been training people since 2015 in the field of agriculture. Learning to grow your own food is a skill that will last a lifetime and has great possibilities to be a career for many different types of people. It will enhance your appreciation of what it takes to put food on the table, while all of the many layers of our environment fit together and provides a sense of accomplishment when you complete projects. There are so many skills you will learn that carry over to many different careers as well: time management, dependability, working with team members, physical labor, plumbing, mechanics, and environmental sustainability and landscaping.
Grow It Green Morristown seeks a detail-oriented and creative student to assist in organizational outreach, program promotion, and fundraising events.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The Marketing Intern will be responsible for assisting the Development Manager and Marketing & Outreach Coordinator with weekly promotions and graphic design. The Marketing Intern will also assist with weekly newsletters, social media postings, event flyers, designing promotional materials, and press release distribution and gauging the interaction and impact. May also be asked to help coordinate fundraising events. Desired applicant has an interest in local food systems and gardening and be personable and self-motivated.
Create weekly e-blasts with updates for upcoming events
Develop promotional materials for events and programs
Update the organizational website & create content for social media
Help with organizational fundraising events and classes
Submit calendar listings to local online news outlets
Opportunities to assist with grant writing
Strong writing skills
Must be personable and enjoy working with diverse community members
Competency in MailChimp or similar email program is a plus
Graphic design (Canva or similar) and understanding of social media is desired
Must be dependable, organized, flexible and have a sense of humor
Attention to detail is a must
A strong work ethic and the ability to work remotely
Ability to speak fluent Spanish is a plus
Needs to be dependable and have own transportation and computer
Job Schedule and Requirements:
This is an unpaid part-time internship, from January through May for the second semester. Students must be enrolled in a higher education institution and receive college credit for the internship. Preferred candidate will gain experience in the nonprofit local food sector.
