 Urban Farm Internship 2020

 

Grow It Green Morristown seeks a detail-oriented and creative college student to assist in organizational outreach, program promotion, and fundraising events.

 

Duties will include:

Hands on physical labor

1. Basic care, feeding, and tending of a large-scale vegetable garden

2. Using farm tools such as pruners, wheelbarrows, garden weeders, etc.

3. Must be able to lift heavy loads (such as soil, compost, rocks, etc.) 

5. Must be comfortable using a gas operated tools such as lawn mower and weed-whacker.

 

A mature, positive attitude

1. Dependable, organized, flexible and have a sense of humor.

2. Can be flexible due to weather constraints (i.e. heavy rain one day may change the work schedule)

3. Must be personable, like working with all kinds of people including children and our diverse community members

4. Work as a member of a team

5. A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently, with minimal oversight

6. Excellent communication skills

 

Other items that are important to both you and us

1. Some office work will be required.

2. Work can sometimes be off-site, like at our community garden location or Greenhouse.

3. Spanish speaking is a plus

4. Must have reliable transportation.

5. Be able to work odd hours

 

Job Schedule

This is a paid, seasonal position. We have work available from early May through early September. The work is part-time up to 25 hours a week for 20 weeks. During the months of May-August, he/she must be able to work on Saturdays each week. The lunch hour is unpaid. There is no housing provided. Submission deadline for the position is April 15th 2020.

Urban Farm College credit Internship 2020

Students must be enrolled in a higher education institution and receive college credit for the internship. This role must have its own transportation. This is an unpaid internship where you will gain excellent experience in the non-profit local food sector.

Urban Farm High School Internship

 

Grow It Green Morristown is seeking a reliable, hands-on, high school intern to assist with the cultivation of produce at the Urban Farm. The cultivated area of our farm is approximately 1-acre. All of our farm practices follow organic recommendations and emphasize overall sustainability, but we are not certified organic. We plant over 30 different varieties of vegetables and maximize our growing space using companion planting techniques and many rounds of succession planting to increase our potential yield on our farm.

 

The Urban Farm is an educational center for the community and the 5,200 children of the Morris School District, making this job opportunity distinct from many typical farm jobs. This job will require self-confidence and a professional attitude, as well as being able to deal with a variety of diverse groups. Our interns must be able to work with groups of youth and adults.

 

The Urban Farm Interns will be responsible for assisting in food production, soil management and helping coordinate the distribution of produce to Grow It Green Morristown’s various partners. Interns should desire to learn more about gardening and production of food, as well as have a desire to work with children and the public. We are a community oriented nonprofit, as such we expect the intern to help with programs and events.

Job Schedule

This is a paid, part-time seasonal position, with work available from June through late October up to 15 hours per week. Our farm operates Monday through Saturday. During the internship, we will request that he/she work on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each week. The deadline for applicants is June 15, 2020.

 

This position is an outdoor job and requires the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions, including very hot, very rainy, and humid weather. On days where outdoor work is impossible, interns may reschedule their work hours for a different day of the week.

Marketing Intern

Grow It Green Morristown seeks a detail-oriented and creative college student to assist in organizational outreach, program promotion, and fundraising events.

 

Grow It Green Morristown creates sustainable farms and gardens that provide equal access to fresh, local food, while educating communities through programs focused on healthy eating and environmental stewardship. The non-profit manages three sites: the Early Street Community Garden, the Urban Farm at the Lafayette Learning Center, and the Greenhouse at the College of Saint Elizabeth. Once a littered and vacant lot, the Early Street Community Garden is now a public parklet that provides space for over 100 families to grow their own food, flowers, and herbs. The Urban Farm is a one-acre educational farm for the community and 3,330 area-children. All of our cultivation practices follow organic principles and emphasize overall sustainability and biological inputs, but we are not certified organic.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

The Marketing Intern will be responsible for assisting the Development Manager with weekly promotions and graphic design. The Marketing Intern will also be responsible for weekly newsletters, social media postings, event flyers, designing promotional materials, and press release distribution. He/She may also be asked to help coordinate fundraising events. He/She should have an interest in local food systems and gardening and be personable and self-motivated.

 

Specific duties:

  1. Create weekly e-blasts with updates for upcoming events

  2. Develop promotional materials for events and programs

  3. Update the organizational website & social media

  4. Help with organizational fundraising events and classes

  5. Submit calendar listings to local online news outlets

  6. Opportunities to assist with grant writing

 

Qualifications:

  1. Excellent writing skills

  2. Must be personable and enjoy working with diverse community members

  3. Competency in MailChimp or similar email program is a plus

  4. Graphic design or Photoshop experience is a plus

  5. Must be dependable, organized, flexible and have a sense of humor

  6. Attention to detail is a must

  7. A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently, with minimal oversight

  8. Ability to speak fluent Spanish is a significant plus
